(University of Tsukuba) University of Tsukuba researchers have found that 60 minutes of vigorous exercise improved objective measures of sleep, particularly by reducing the amount of time it takes to fall asleep and by enhancing the stability and power of slow waves during non-rapid eye movement sleep. However, the participants did not report a subjective increase in sleep quality. Thus, exercise may improve sleep quality even if it does not feel like it has a beneficial effect.
